My name is Dee and I am owned by a beautiful CAG named Perky and a quaker parrot named Sméagol.
We purchased Sméagol from a breeder and he came to live with us on November 4, 2004 ... Sméagol is our first experience with birds and boy did we have a lot to learn.
Just a little less then a year after Sméagol came to us we added Perky (CAG) to our flock on October 30, 2005.
Perky was 22 years old when he joined our flock and has had the same owner for 20 of those 22 years. Perky wasn't getting much out of cage time and he now finds himself in a foreign environment. We felt this would be a difficult adjustment for him and we were up for the challenge.
Since we have had Perky he has a new cage, toys both hanging and foot, introduced to a new pellet diet with added fresh foods and spends most of his time out of his cage. Since the introduction of toys he hasn't needed to have his beak trimmed. He now plays, whistles, sings, dances and is our own personal entertainer.
In my limited experience I have learned so much about these beautiful birds. Most of my learning comes from reading and belonging to forums such as this.
Due to the challenges that I faced with Perk's re-homing I knew that I needed help. Who better to help out then other grey lovers such as myself.
So in April 2006 An African Grey forum was born ...
I felt that a Grey community/forum could also not only help myself but others .. just through sharing,
In closing ... Welcome to An African Grey. I hope you enjoy the forum.
Please introduce yourself and tell us a little about your grey!
